Business data licensing
Sell your business data. Keep control of the rights.
Your company may be able to make money from its data by granting a buyer defined use rights. Paid licensing usually lets you retain ownership, unlike an outright IP sale. Whether an opportunity exists depends on the material, permissions and actual buyer interest—not simply how much data you hold.

What can be considered
- Company-owned operational records, specialist datasets, software and documentation can be candidates.
- You should be authorised to describe the collection and able to explain how it was created.
- Customer-owned, personal or regulated content needs review; uncertainty is flagged, not automatically rejected.
What buyers may evaluate
- Relevance to a particular training, evaluation or business task.
- Clear origin, consistent structure and enough context to interpret records.
- Useful coverage and recorded outcomes, rather than volume alone.
- Permissions that match the proposed use, with restrictions documented.
Rights and licensing restrictions
Licence your business data only within rights you hold. Review customer contracts, confidentiality, third-party content and applicable GDPR or UK GDPR obligations. Removing names may not make records anonymous. Agree permitted use, duration, exclusivity, redistribution and derived-model rights in writing.
Licensing vs selling ownershipPricing context
How much could your company's data be worth?
Short answer: it depends, and many datasets have no commercial buyer. Some AI data programs publish partnership ranges, which give a sense of scale — but they are not a price for your data.
Scale AI
Source (opens Scale AI page)- $10K–$1M+
- Illustrative value per data partnership, scaling with cadence
- $100K+
- Qualified enterprise data partnerships
- $500K+
- Large-scale operational datasets or ongoing participation
- $1M+
- Highly unique proprietary operational data
Advertised program tiers
Ranges a provider publishes to describe its program. Marketing context, not a quote or an average.
An actual paid deal
A negotiated licence with a specific buyer, scope, term and price. Terms are usually confidential.

A qualitative read of whether licensing looks worth exploring. We don't give a price until a real buyer conversation supports one.
What drives value
- 01
Uniqueness
Data a buyer can't easily collect, buy elsewhere or generate synthetically.
- 02
Depth & historical coverage
Long, continuous records across many cases, teams or years rather than a short snapshot.
- 03
Decision & outcome context
Records that show what was decided, why, and what happened next — not just raw events.
- 04
Quality & readiness
Consistent, documented and de-identifiable data that can be prepared without months of cleanup.
- 05
Clear rights & a real use case
Lawful basis to share, no conflicting third-party claims, and a buyer with a specific training or evaluation need.
Licences can be one-time or recurring (for example, periodic data refreshes), depending on what the parties agree. There is no guaranteed payment, and eligibility, rights and buyer interest decide whether any offer is made.

Common questions
- Can I sell data without transferring ownership?
- Potentially. A licence can grant specific use rights while ownership remains with you. The written terms define what is allowed.
- What if I am unsure about the rights?
- Say so in the assessment. We flag the issue for review; content may need to be excluded or permissions obtained before licensing.
- Is the assessment free?
- Yes. It provides qualitative guidance without uploads or obligation. Any eventual transaction fee would be agreed in writing beforehand.
